Notes

We intend to present all Symposium plenary and poster abstracts on this web page.

Thus, the most convenient way for us to receive an abstract is electronically.

We will accept hard-copy or paper abstracts, but can make no guarantee as to when

or if they will be presented on the internet site.

    A. If at all possible, send the abstracts in HTML format/ASCII text:

  1. See the sample abstract at www.phc.vcu.edu/26thNMCS/sampleabstract.html that has been created with the appropriate HTML tags to produce the necessary format.  Please save the source for the sample onto your PC hard drive and use it as a template.
  2. Graphics should be created with either a transparent or white background for best results (and faster download time).  The "gif" or "jpeg" or "jpg" graphic formats are preferred.  White color graphics will appear on the web version of your abstract, but keep in mind that a printed black/white version may be printed for distribution at the Symposium.
  3. It is permissible to include hyperlinks in your abstract, if you provide all the HTML code for each link.  For example, please feel free to link your institutional home page or to a web page devoted to your research area.  However, these links should be such that they are transparent to the reader of the hard-copy abstract; for example, links that state "Click here for more information . . ." are inappropriate.
For Non-HTML Format Abstracts: Send your abstract as an attachment via email.  Use one of the common word processor applications, such as Microsoft Word.  We will attempt to read other formats, but may have to return it to the author for submission in hard-copy (or other format) if we are not successful.  Therefore, please do not wait until the abstract deadline to make an electronic submission!  We will accept floppy, CD-R, or Zip disks - make sure the disk is clearly labeled and keep a backup copy for yourself in the event the original submission does not arrive.  See the above "Abstract Submittal" for mail and courier instructions.

Arrangements for Poster Presentations
The Poster Session is Wednesday, June 12, 7:00 PM, held in the Atrium of the Biotech Center, Biotech 1, Virginia Biotechnology Research Park, 800 East Leigh Street, Richmond, Virginia 23219.  The poster session will also be in the vincinity of the Industry/Professional sponsor booths.  Easels, support boards, lighting, accessories, and sponsor cards will be provided.
Scholarship Awards
We will select prior to the Symposium the presenters of the top 70 posters for the scholarship awards. There will be 30 poster presenters selected to receive awards from VCU/Richmond and 40 poster presenters selected from GMU, UVA, VPI, or other Virginia institutions.  The scholarship includes the cost of Symposium registration.  For award recipients outside of the Richmond area, the scholarship will include reimbursement of hotel accommodations for two nights.  Recipients of hotel reimburesments will be required to be paired in rooms, as only 20 rooms are slotted for the scholarship recipients.  You must inform Michelle Craighead, at (804) 828-3899 of your pairing or call if you need assistance organizing a shared room with another colleague  All selected poster presenters or scholarship recipients must keep track of receipts for hotel and provide original receipts in order to be reimbursed.  Only one hotel room rate plus taxes for two nights will be reimbursed per pair.  One of the pair must use a credit card or an organization purchasing card to reserve their room at the Omni Hotel.  Click on Hotel for more information.

Career Fair
The Career Fair will provide an opportunity for both students and sponsors alike to discuss employment opportunities, network, and engage in dialogue within a relaxed atmosphere, unlike a traditional interview.  Students from all disciplines, including Life Sciences, Engineering, Business, Medical, Pharmacy, Information Technology, Education, and others, are strongly encouraged to attend.  You must register for the Evening Event of Wednesday, June 12, (for a cost of $10) even if you plan only to attend the Poster Session and Career Fair.  You may register for this single Evening Event from the Registration page.  Students may wish to use business cards with their contact information as a means of communicating with the business or company representative, in lieu of shuffling paper resume or vitae documents.  Likewise, a student may wish to request a contact card from the company representative.  Our Sponsors' links and web page will be updated frequently, as more sponsors come on board.
